WSF was founded on Folly Beach in May 2015 by a group of local surfers and combat Veterans who understood firsthand the healing impact of the ocean. They came together with a shared vision: to use surfing as a vehicle for recovery, community building, and hope for those navigating the invisible wounds of military service, including PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
